Baking Snickerdoodles

Last month, the H1 Home Economics Class approached me and asked if I would be interested in giving them some real, Canadian recipes. I was delighted to hear that they were interested in Canadian food and that they wanted to challenge themselves with an unfamiliar recipe. After writing out a few recipes, the Home Economic Class decided upon making snickerdoodles. The recipe that they used is one that I received from my grandmother. It made me feel very happy to share something from my family with the school. The students then had to face the challenge of reading an all-English recipe. I think everyone did a fabulous job of trying their best with the challenges given to them. I had the pleasure of watching one of their cooking classes as they tried to make snickerdoodles. They seemed to be having a lot of fun trying to figure out how to best bake the cookies and how to be the number one bakers in the class. Many of their cookies were very delicious! It reminded me of home. Lastly, I was so happily shocked that the students carefully read my English feedback, and wrote comments back to me in English too. I think they did a great job of not only challenging an unknown recipe, but also using and understanding English to the best of their ability.

(ALT Samantha)
