How Was Your Weekend? (J3 homestay program)

During the three-day weekend, neither any student nor any host parent contacted us to ask for help, and all the students came back, their eyes bright with confidence! Here are just some of the stories they wrote in their diaries.

 Outdoor Activities

We went canoeing on Lightning River. This was my first time, so it was too difficult and I got tired, but it was fun.  The view was beautiful. I want to go canoeing one more time.

Cultural Exchange

I had a good time today. I went to a candy shop and my host mother bought me some candies there. The clerk was very gentle.  Then, we went to the hill behind our house. On the hill, we ate some fresh raspberries. They were very delicious. Today, I played with my host sister, so we have become close.  Dinner was made by me! It was very fun! Everyone loves okonomiyaki. My host father said, “Good communication.” I was very happy.

Everyday Life of Local Families

I went to my host family’s shop to clean. I baked an apple crisp and made some jam with my host sister.  We made a lot. I took many pictures around our house with my host sister. I don’t know why. And I went to the neighbor’s pool again but it was not so cold as the other night.  I watched them washing sheep. It looked so hard. The sheep didn’t do as people told them.

 Religious Experience

Today, I enjoyed myself so much because we went to church.  I made a lot of friends there. A girl was able to speak Japanese a little.  Many people talked to me, saying “Kon-nichiwa” and “Ohayo-gozaimasu.” I found that Japan is very familiar to them.

Appreciation and Wonderment

Harrison Lake was very big and beautiful.  The water and air were very clean. I wondered why trees can grow in the middle of the lake.  I thought that the trees were going to decay.
