3月26日(木)からバリ島宿泊研修がスタートしました。
本研修は、高等部1年の希望者を対象に、リゾート地バリ島が抱える課題について学び、その解決に向けたアクションプランを構築する、探究型の4泊5日のプログラムです。今回は、31名の生徒が参加しています。

-DAY1-

成田空港を出発し、約7時間のフライトを経てデンパサール国際空港に到着しました。到着後はバスでホテルへ移動し、現地でお世話になるスタッフの方々の紹介を受けました。

長時間の移動の疲れもあり、この日は各自部屋で夕食をとり、翌日からの活動に備えて早めに休みました。

-DAY2-

研修2日目は、いよいよ現地での探究活動が本格的に始まりました。

午前中は、バリの社会課題についてのレクチャーを受けた後、生徒たちは
①ごみ問題（waste）
②農業（agriculture）
③観光（sightseeing）
の3つのチームに分かれ、それぞれのテーマに沿ったフィールドワークへと向かいました。

今回はその中でも、観光チームの活動を中心に紹介します。

観光チームは、地域と観光の関係性を学ぶため、ボンカサビレッジを訪問しました。

まずは伝統的な農業体験として田植えに挑戦しました。慣れない泥に苦戦しながらも、現地の方々に教わり、協力しながら作業を進めていきます。

続いて、地域の方々とともにバリの伝統料理づくりを体験しました。
串に巻きつけて焼く「サテ」、魚や鶏肉を香草とともに包んで蒸し焼きにする「ペペス」、そして揚げ豆腐など、現地の食文化に触れながら調理を行いました。自分たちで作った料理を囲んでの食事は、交流を深める貴重な時間となりました。

その後は、バリ・ヒンドゥーの文化に触れる活動として、「チャナン」と呼ばれる供物づくりを体験しました。日々の祈りの中で用いられるもので、花や葉を丁寧に組み合わせて作られます。

活動の最後には、現地の方々へのインタビューを実施しました。観光による影響について話を聞く中で、「チャナンをまたいだり、踏んでしまう観光客がいることに困っている」といった声も聞かれました。文化や信仰に対する理解の不足が、地域の人々にとって大きなストレスとなっている現状を知り、生徒たちは観光のあり方について深く考えるきっかけを得ました。

3日目以降は、ここで得た学びをもとに、さらに問いを深め、具体的な行動へとつなげていきます。
現地での経験を通して、生徒たちがどのように成長していくのか、引き続き見守っていきます。

以下、農業チームの生徒が英語で書いたコメントです。

First, we went to the office of su-re.co and attended a lecture about this trip. They gave us hints on how to conduct research and explained what kind of social issues Bali Island faces. We also tried to describe in our own words what environmental issues mean to us.

After the lecture, we are divided into three groups: waste, water pollution, and agriculture. The agriculture team tried indigo dyeing. We made T-shirts, and we are going to wear them on the final day of this program. I can’t wait to wear mine!

In the afternoon, we went to Jiwa Garden and attended a lecture from one of the founders. At Jiwa Garden, they make compost (organic fertilizer) using wasted food from restaurants and hotels. He said, “The soil is the foundation of farming. Without good soil, we can’t grow food. Therefore, we should create good conditions for bacteria to live. That’s why we make compost.”

His idea was amazing to me because my research had not focused on soil at all. In addition, he told us the importance of species diversity. We also experienced planting marigold seedlings. There were a lot of insects in the garden, and I was surprised as soon as I saw one.

Finally, we had dinner with a beautiful sunset view, and it was a perfect ending to the first day in Bali. Everybody talked a lot about what they experienced today in the group activities. All of my friends’ experiences were surprising, and some of them were quite unbelievable for me.

The program started just today. However, tomorrow is the final day of our research because the day after tomorrow we have to give a presentation and go back to Japan. I will keep challenging myself as much as possible to find solutions to the issues that local people in Bali face.
