There’s No Debate. English Camp is Fun! ~English Camp Day 3~

English Apocalypse: Day 3

In the morning, the students battled it out over the questions of whether homework and uniforms are necessary. Not only the negative, but surprisingly also the affirmative, had something good to say about these points of school life. Finally, English was the winner as students made many sentences, and some were even able to form rebuttals to their classmates’ arguments.

After lunch saw them beginning work on their skits. The skits are based on Japanese fables, but students are free to interpret it however they like, so it doesn’t have to be an accurate retelling. Students have not only written their own skits in English, but also made their own props, and chosen their own music. All afternoon students have been borrowing colored paper, tape, cardboard boxes, and crayons, so we’re really wondering what they’ve been constructing. The skits will be performed tomorrow morning, and we’re all looking forward to seeing them.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For afternoon tea the students went to Super Star, which is the hotel’s sports bar, to have a go at ordering a drink. They could choose from several drinks, and had popcorn with it. Some students tried their hand at the pool table, but there were no pool sharks swimming among them.

IMG_3583After that, a treasure hunt had them running all over the hotel’s grounds. Armed with a map that had locations for them to search for, and a set of clues to help them seek out the native speakers who had hidden themselves all over the place, they did their best to solve as many of the puzzles as they could. The warm humid weather and exercise had many of them sweating pretty hard.

With the skit preparations happening in the dinner hall, dinner was in the lobby dining area. For a change of air the native speakers ate with a different team to their usual one. We’ve had seven huge and delicious meals in a row, but that didn’t stop most students taking full advantage of the buffet for number eight. Thank goodness they did all that running during the treasure hunt!

The evening was brought to a close with team games and journal writing. I’m sure that almost all of them will be asleep by lights out at eleven. Almost all…
