June DCG Academy – Charades

The second DCG Academy kicked off with a classic communication game called Charades. It was great to test the students on their ability to recognise and guess in English what their teammates were attempting to describe using only gestures.

At the beginning of the activity, we only had five students participating, so we started the first round with everyone guessing together. Each girl was given a secret word within a category: animals. Going around in a circle each student had to act out the secret word they were given. Of course, a teacher was given the first word as an example and had to act out monkey! Luckily our students are brighter than stars and guessed correctly in no time at all.

With the heightening excitement of the activity, the small circle of students rapidly grew until we were able to split the girls into teams. Three groups of five were formed and the true competition began!

Each group selected one person to act out the secret word. Once all teams were ready, the secret word was shown to the selected girls. They had 30 seconds to act out this word in any way they could without words.

Each student would act out four words for their team before rotating to a new group member. From English verbs to movies, we moved through various categories due to the students’ impressive acting and guessing abilities.

By the end we had drawn quite the crowd, with many other students looking on. We hope that next time, they will join too!
