The First Day in Canada (J3 homestay program)

Our long-awaited trip to Chilliwack, Canada, has finally begun. Twenty-five students, warmly seen off by their families, set off for Vancouver yesterday.
Though we flew across the date line during the night, the girls were so happy that some of them hardly fell asleep. At the airport, they met with two friendly Canadian instructors, who are to look after them through the program. Energetic and excited, the girls got on the bus to their first destination, Granville Island, where they looked around the market and chose food for lunch. For many, it was the first time to go shopping abroad, talk with local people in English and use a foreign currency.
Now they have settled in their hotel rooms, with their hearts filled with expectations and hopes for the encounter with their buddies and host families.
待ちに待ったカナダでのホームステイ。2度の食事を含んで8時間半のフライトはあっという間で、あまり眠れなかった生徒もいましたが、到着時はそれを感じさせない元気でした。まず初日の観光と昼食の地、グランヴィル・アイランドへと向かいました。この旅が初めての海外旅行である生徒も少なくなく、誰の助けも借りずに英語で意思疎通をしての買い物を経験して表情は輝いていました。バンクーバー最大の観光名所スタンレー・パークに立ち寄る頃にはそろそろ寝不足から疲れた様子がみられましたが、ホテルに着き、全員での夕食では元気に明日から始まる研修や、バディーおよびホスト・ファミリーとの出会いについての期待を語り合っていました。
