Over the last two days the students watched two Disney classic animated movies – Snow White and Cinderella. Yes, it may sound childish, but then they discussed some interesting questions. “What do you think about the idea of falling in love with someone at first sight?” “What qualities do you think the prince was looking for in a princess?” “How do you think the story would be if Cinderella was ugly?” “What is the difference between traditional princesses and modern princesses?” Some questions could lead to academic arguments in psychology or sociology…
‘Today, I watched “Snow White” and “Cinderella.” Later, we discussed them. I hadn’t thought deeply about these stories, so it was difficult. However, I had a good experience.’
‘I knew the stories of Cinderella and Snow White, but it was my first time to watch movies about them. Half way through Snow White, the princess said, “Amen.” Then I thought that the power of religion is very big even in movies. They believe in God so much, I think.’
After this challenging task, they had lunch, relaxed outside and practiced dancing while waiting for their special guests.
Finally, their guests from faraway fantasy land arrived! Snow White and Cinderella told them their stories and beautifully sang some songs from their movies.
‘Meeting Princesses was a very good program. I was able to talk with Snow White and Cinderella. I was able to raise my hand a lot of times.’
Today, August 13, each student made a speech on her most memorable experience of this visit. They were all much more expressive in English, and more importantly, they had a lot more to tell their friends. In the afternoon, they took part in a yoga lesson. All directions were given in English, of course, which didn’t bother them any more. Now they are back at the Study Centre, preparing for the closing ceremony.
英会話レッスンは残すところ2日となりました。この日、生徒たちはディズニーの古典的アニメーション映画の名作、白雪姫とシンデレラを見終えました。カナダまで行ってディズニー映画？などと思うなかれ、この後にはかなり頭を悩ませるディスカッションが待っているのです。「もしシンデレラが醜かったなら物語はどうなっていたか」「王子は姫にどんな性質を求めていたと思うか」「白雪姫やシンデレラのようなディズニーの昔の映画のお姫さまと最近のディズニー映画のお姫さまはどう違うか」どれも一筋縄ではいかない問いで、生徒たちはしばし考え込んでいました。
昼食を終え、バディーたちと会話を楽しんだりダンスの練習をしたあとはいよいよおとぎの国からのゲストの登場です！表情豊かでやさしい２人の姫は自己紹介に絵本を読み聞かせたあと美しい声で歌を披露し、時には生徒とともに歌いました。姫たちへの質問コーナーでは生徒から積極的に質問が出て、２人はユーモアを交えなからにこやかに答えていました。
この日はいつものレッスンの先生やバディーとだけでなく、お客様との会話も楽しんだ生徒たち。滞在が残り少ないことを口々に嘆きながら温かいホスト・ファミリーのもとへ帰って行きました。
そして週が明けて今日は月曜日。先週末同様、それぞれに忘れられない家族の時間を過ごした様子です。午前中のレッスンでこの旅での１番の思い出を全員が笑顔で発表しました。午後は英語ですべての指示を受けての初めてのヨガ体験。体をほぐし、リフレッシュして研修所に戻ってきました。今生徒たちはバディーたちと一緒に閉会式の準備に取り組んでいます。
