English Camp Day 2

Today the students did many various activities. The first activity was a speech contest. In the morning we held the elimination rounds. Two finalists from each group were chosen. After lunch, the 14 finalists delivered their speeches in front of the entire camp. All of them did an outstanding job, and their speeches were fascinating to listen to. Everyone, the native teachers, students were quite moved by their amazing performances.

The second activity was debating practice. The girls learned how to debate in English step by step. This was their first ever experience to debate in English. They had four topic and needed to come up with as many reasons as they could to support their arguments, both pro and con.  After dinner, they continued to practice their debating techniques, so they could defeat their opponents.  Tomorrow, they will have a debate competition with the other groups.  In the evening, they enjoyed some outdoor sports.  Most of students played frisbee or cops and robbers (dorokei). They were very excited to play outside, it was very refreshing after a long day of study.

The most exciting thing they did today was to invite a special guest to their dinner. He is an airline pilot for Delta Airlines.  When the bus with the Delta crews arrived at the hotel, the girls approached many crew members and tried to invite them to our dinner. Many of the crew members were too tired after their long flights to accept the invitations.  But, one special guest, a pilot named Dave, accepted the girls invitation and ate dinner with us.  That will be a special memory the students won’t soon forget.        ( Sakuma ・Shibao )

From students

Today we learned how to debate.  To give our opinion in English is very difficult and challenging.  But we enjoyed it.  We also invited airline pilots to dinner.  One gentleman came!  We asked him many questions.  At the end of the day we went outside to play.  We played tag, frisbee, and catch ball.  That was very refreshing for us and we could release our stress.  Tomorrow we will continue the debates and begin to practice our drama.  Today we were very busy, but we had great fun!                                                                                                                                                             ( J3   Mizuki and Aina)
