カナダホームステイ第５日目

今日は朝からバスに乗り込みバンクーバーへ出掛けました。午前中は、UBC(ブリティッシュコロンビア大学)に向かい、大学生と交流します。6人のグループに1人ずつUBCの学生が入り、大学生活についてのさまざまな話を聞きました。”How many Japanese students are there?” “What do you enjoy the most at UBC?”… 用意していた質問も、たくさん投げかけることができました。”How long is the summer vacation?” の答えに”Four months!” と返ってきて驚く場面も。最初こそ緊張していた生徒たちですが、すぐに打ち解けて教室の中は英語と笑い声で溢れていました。その後は学生にキャンパスを案内してもらいました。図書館やカフェテリア、ブックストアやガーデンなど広大なキャンパスに感銘を受けていた様子でした。
昼食はカフェテリアで自分の好きなものを注文します。英語での注文にもずいぶん慣れてきたようです。午後は少し場所を変えてガスタウンへ。きれいな街並みで有名な観光エリアで、思う存分おみやげを買うことができました。帰りのバスの中でも、アルバイトのことや日本の京都のことなど、バディとの様々な会話が聞こえてきました。おしゃべりが止まらないほど打ち解けてきたようです。
昨日の分のジャーナルを紹介します。
I introduced Den-en-chofu Gakuen with my friends. I was nervous, but I had fun! I’m glad that everyone looked happy. Then I made a dream catcher. Making it was difficult , but it is a nice Canadian souvenir! And I played the drum of First Nations. (H.I)
I learned about First Nations and Totem Tales. I made dream cathers. It was difficult but my buddy taught me how to make them. It was fun. I made “takoyaki” at home. My host family said, “It’s delicious.” (Y.F)
I made a dream catcher! It has many colors. I chose the pink one. And it was difficult. My buddies helped me and we talked a lot. I was happy. (I.F)
Today, I could talk to buddies and host family when I was eating lunch. I found trying to talk to others is very important and a lot of fun. I’ll enjoy tomorrow. (A.F)
