We Are Powerful Teams! (J3 homestay program)

August 3, Cloudy

Today’s session started with a group project. The students first learned that British Columbia, as well as Canada, is known for its natural beauty. Then, they were given several keywords, some of which were big words such as ‘biodiversity’ and ‘cultural heritage.’ After sharing those concepts, each group chose one topic and did some research using their buddy’s smartphone. The buddies helped the students by searching for related information and explaining new words. Finally each group gave a poster presentation. The themes being rather academic and vocabulary challenging, the girls still gained some knowledge and conveyed it well.

In the afternoon, we headed for Harrison Hot Springs for team-building activity. A half-hour bus ride took us to the lake, where the girls and buddies, again in the same small groups, had a scavenger hunt. There were seven tasks they had to get done, for example, to take a picture of all members together eating something. The completion of all the missions had to be recorded on one camera.

Now, it’s a three-day weekend! They will surely have a great time and get closer to their host family members.
