May These Gates Never Be Closed (J3 homestay program)

Aug 8, Sunny

The girls are becoming more eloquent in their journals. Let’s see how a student described her morning activities.

‘I went to the study center, and I made a flag with my friend and buddies. We made a flag which has a cat and four paw prints. Before the lunch time, we watched “Snow White” I knew the story a little, but it was my first time to watch the movie. Seven small people were very cute.’

In the afternoon, we visited Peace Arch Park, which is located right on the border between Canada and the U.S.A. In the middle of the park stands the Peace Arch, a 20-meter-tall monument to commemorate long lasting peace between the two countries. The students and their buddies walked around to find some international border markers.

‘We went to the ocean, but it was a low tide time.  Then, I was able to find some crabs. It was very hot and the sun was shining. We took many pictures with our buddies.  It was a lot of fun. I like talking with them.’

When we came back to the study center around 16:20, the temperature was hitting 38 degrees Celsius! The girls were exhausted, but happily left for their host families to share a joyful evening.

‘I went to the farm after school. It was because we bought eight new chickens. Ryan brought three big boxes and put the new chickens in them. We took them back to our house.  New chickens fought with the old ones. It was interesting.’
